It has come to our attention that a few of our members have come close to being exploited by scammers. Please be vigilant if anyone contacts you claiming to have found your camera!
They most likely will request a high sum of money for postage fees for the return of the camera, and usually they have long personal stories why they don't reply to email for many days at a time.
** There are many ways to verify if someone has indeed found your lost camera **
Here are a few examples...
1. Ask the finder to send one or two photos from the memory card for you to verify.
2. Ask what size memory card is inserted inside the camera.
3. Request the serial number from the camera, and verify this. (This information should be with your camera packaging or if you have registered your camera online, you can possibly retrieve this information).
4. If they are unable to access the memory card, ask for a close up picture of your camera, back and front (Check for any distinguishable scratches or markings).
5. Ask about the colour / make of camera bag, if applicable, that was found with the camera.
So PLEASE NOTIFY the board Admin if you are suspicious of anyone! We will contact this person to verify the details for you. Please provide us a copy of their emails so we can investigate and update board members as well.
Thank you for your feedback and effort in keeping this board safe.
Regards,
Steve
